Geocaching + Twitter = Where is everyone?

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Today should have been spent head down bum up working but instead it was slowly whittled away while as I played around with keywords in the world of Twitter, one keyword in particular “geocaching” *blush*

I should have known better, in fact I did and do know better, because since 1st March 2007 my day job and down time have been well consumed by Twitter so to then combine it with Geocaching was without doubt asking for trouble. In my defence I have to say that despite still having a mountain of work sitting directly to my left I have achieved quite a lot… in the Twitter / Geocaching world that is *blush*

Today, despite having done nothing else, I’ve setup / rearranged my twitter apps, found and starting following some awesome geocachers and tracked down where cachers tend to hang out online… not bad if I do say so myself.

Geocaching Meets Twitter Software:

I use TweetDeck (Win & Mac) to manage my personal Twitter account and I’ve enlisted Twirl (Win & Mac) which is awesome for managing multiple accounts, to care for @TFTC and @GeocachingZone, but it doesn’t stop there…  on my Okta Touch (Telecom network) which I use for Geocaching (via TrackyPro and CacheMate) I use ceTwit and finally on my Mac I use Twitterific … so that’s my little arsenal of Twitter tools that keep me, my tweets, my tweeples and my sanity all in check :)

Since adding our geocaching interests to twitter I started on the prowl for some new (and old) Twitter friends with the common ground of geocaching…

Twitter: TFTC

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Yesterday we were rained in so I chipped away at one of my dust gathering to-do lists, the end result being I can now see my desk, [most] papers are now filed and we now have a Twitter account for our geocaching adventures, news and information, so if you too are a Tweeple then you can track us down @TFTC

follow us on Twitter @TFTC

I had an awesome time making our Twitter page background so much so that I did the same for our store account @GeocachingZone and they are so easy to do and a great way to kill time when your trapped inside hankering for a large flatwhite…

our next giveaway “The Gems in your life”

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

hot on the heels of our Translucent Green and Glow Kiwi Nomad Geocoins giveaway we are launching another one, this time it’s for the The Gems in your life who we want to gives thanks to and spread the word about who that special person is and why they mean so much to us.

So in honour of all the unsung gems in our lives we’re giving away 4 GeoGems™ (during February), these very unique trackables (yes, they are trackable at Geocaching.com, the tracking numbers are etched into the top of the gem) and like the gems in your life, these are really quite stunning and special.

details of the giveaway are available at our store posting The Gems in your life but basically the details are:

So how will it work?  Like our Translucent Green and Glow Kiwi Nomad Geocoin giveaway we  wont be posting the GeoGems™  to the recipients, we will be releasing them (from Auckland, NZ) into the wild so they can travel to their final destination collecting miles, memories and photos along the way spreading the story of that special someone. We have 1x Green, 1xRed, 1xBlue and 1xClear GeoGem™  to give away, the colours will be selected at random.

Who can I nominate? Anyone, but the final recipient has to be a member of Geocaching.com or part of a geocaching team. Your nomination could be that special someone that doesn’t always cache with you but is always supporting you from the sidelines,  it could be a someone that introduced you to the geocaching or helped you along the way or it could be in memory of someone special… gems are defined by the places in our memories and hearts not by locality :)

see The Gems in your life  for how to enter that little gem in your life :)
