Sunday, May 17th, 2009

We wanted to highlight some of the amazing views along the roads of the Pohutukawa coast and beyond. Rocky Road takes you to some of these locations and provides a quick stop on route to other cache sites.

There is space for at least one car to pull over safely

I (Andy) discovered the location for Rocky Road 1 when checking out possible spots for my 143 cache (GC19B8G) the 143 coordinates unfortunately took you just over the fence line, If you want to see the original view you can cross the road from this cache location and make your way up the bank (Please be careful crossing this road).

Say hello to the sheep in the field below when you arrive :)

Description:

The apple of my eye thoroughly enjoys this spot which is too many, the Apple of Maraetai, mostly due to it’s lovely location, scenic views and easy access along the ambling, shelled path.

There are 3 pathed / paved access points to this cache, each has it’s own advantages and disadvantages but all offer great views from Maraetai Beach, across the to Waiheke Island or along to Te Pene Point beach.

The cache is located on Tracey Walk which has recently been upgraded as part of the Maraetai to Beachlands walkway that currently extends from the main wharf at Maraetai Beach through to Te Pene Point at the end of Omana Esplanade Road, it’s well worth a stroll along and there is seated provided at key focal points so you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere, sights and sounds associated with coastal living.

Eventually this walkway will also connect to the Omana Regional Park and through to Te Puru Park and Community Centre.
