Rocky Road (series)

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

We wanted to highlight some of the amazing views along the roads of the Pohutukawa coast and beyond. Rocky Road takes you to some of these locations and provides a quick stop on route to other cache sites.

Placed: 12 April 2009

There is space for at least one car to pull over safely

I (Andy) discovered the location for Rocky Road 1 when checking out possible spots for my 143 cache (GC19B8G) the 143 coordinates unfortunately took you just over the fence line, If you want to see the original view you can cross the road from this cache location and make your way up the bank (Please be careful crossing this road).

Say hello to the sheep in the field below when you arrive :)

Description:

Micro cache hidden off the coast of Maraetai (my-right-eye)

Should be an easy find…

You are looking for a small camouflaged aluminium container. Maraetai has some amazing views and is the location for many TV spots and adverts (Recent National Bank, Lotto, Prime TV, Short films, etc); On a clear day you will see why

Ideal for kids, especially in summer (get here early as beach becomes packed!) but this time of year it’s great for just a quiet walk along the beach.

At the end of the car park closest to the cache you will find a Geodetic marker, these are great for checking out the accuracy of your GPS receiver. Place your GPSr over the marker and it should display:

S36° 52.899 E175° 03.069

(ours was showing S36° 52.901 E175° 03.069 on the day)

Have fun,

There is a special FTF prize in the lid of the container, drop us an E-mail when you find it and we will send you details on what to do and how to use it :)
