Today should have been spent head down bum up working but instead it was slowly whittled away while as I played around with keywords in the world of Twitter, one keyword in particular “geocaching” *blush*

I should have known better, in fact I did and do know better, because since 1st March 2007 my day job and down time have been well consumed by Twitter so to then combine it with Geocaching was without doubt asking for trouble. In my defence I have to say that despite still having a mountain of work sitting directly to my left I have achieved quite a lot… in the Twitter / Geocaching world that is *blush*

Today, despite having done nothing else, I’ve setup / rearranged my twitter apps, found and starting following some awesome geocachers and tracked down where cachers tend to hang out online… not bad if I do say so myself.

Geocaching Meets Twitter Software:

I use TweetDeck (Win & Mac) to manage my personal Twitter account and I’ve enlisted Twirl (Win & Mac) which is awesome for managing multiple accounts, to care for @TFTC and @GeocachingZone, but it doesn’t stop there… on my Okta Touch (Telecom network) which I use for Geocaching (via TrackyPro and CacheMate) I use ceTwit and finally on my Mac I use Twitterific … so that’s my little arsenal of Twitter tools that keep me, my tweets, my tweeples and my sanity all in check

Since adding our geocaching interests to twitter I started on the prowl for some new (and old) Twitter friends with the common ground of geocaching…

Geocaching People on Twitter (where to find them and more like them… ):

Lisa @CacheAdvance was a given! She’s fabulous in so many ways and was one the first people to jump on board giving us help, support and encouragement when we decided to start our online geocaching store in New Zealand.

After Lisa I then headed off to Google and up popped a couple of my favourites @podcacher and @gcpodcast which was great to see, I also stumbled across a Twitter group devoted to Geocaching which you can find at: http://twittgroups.com/group/geocaching

Search.Twitter.com was my next port of call, I threw in “geocaching” and started watching the stream come through at a nice steady pace, if you take a fancy to it you can even subscribe to the Geocaching RSS feed that it generates. Other Twitter search providers are Twingly.com which provides excellent results for “Geocaching“, as does TweetScan.com: Geocaching, along with flaptor.com: Geocaching which also has an RSS feed.

By chance I stumbled across the Geocaching Journal by Richard Fahey which is an awesome blog providing informative and easy to read geocaching articles, news and information, so I added Richard on twitter @geojoe as he’s without doubt a “must have” for me. Speaking of must haves or rather “adds”, there’s a list on TwitTip, which Richard submitted, it’s the top 10 list of Geocaching people to follow and it’s well worth going over as you’ll pick up some pure gems like @emcofnorthridge and @HeadHardHat.

For the statistical elite, pop along to Twitter Grader and it will pop out the top 100 Geocachers (based on the keyword “geocaching”) currently active on Twitter, the number one position is currently held by @josh_spaulding

As you can see there is no shortage of geocachers currently on Twitter and there is no shortage of places to track them down and as mentioned above, a good place to start would perhaps be Twitter Groups Geocaching as you can either jump in or warm up using there stream.

Now I really must get started on work… just as soon as I’ve caught up on the lastest tweets from my new gecoaching tweeters
